This year has been crucial within the framework of the LIFE RESEAU project. It has been marked by significant advances in the development and validation of tools and technologies, as well as in the dissemination and awareness of the challenges addressed by this initiative. Below is a summary of the most significant milestones.
Technology validation
2024 brought the first results in the two LIFE RESEAU pilot project locations. In Søndersø, the technology deployed continued to operate in 2023, consolidating results and drawing valuable conclusions.
In parallel, the Moaña WWTP experienced the launch of its corresponding pilot, including the beginning of monitoring its operation in comparison with conventional treatment. The sensor network was also adjusted to build models based on data and numerical simulations. This work not only improved the models, but also made it possible to identify opportunities for optimization in network operation.
In both locations, progress was made in the construction of digital models of the networks, allowing flows to be broken down, reliefs to be predicted, and flows to be forecast at key points.
Main events and strengthening networks
Dissemination and collaboration activities have been fundamental pillars for the project throughout this year. Regarding participation in events and congresses, the presentation of LIFE RESEAU at the IAHR Europe Congress stands out, as well as in the Water4All event in Lisbon, participation in the AEAS congress in Castellón (Spain), or participation in the webinar of the Bankinter Innovation Foundation.
Regarding networking activities, participation in the webinar organized by the Spanish Water Technology Platform was key to connecting with related projects and establishing valuable networks.
Raising awareness about environmental challenges
Another of the notable milestones of 2024 has been the work to raise public awareness through the publication of news related to extreme climate phenomena and their impact on water management and the analysis of new environmental regulations, highlighting the importance of adapting to a constantly evolving regulatory environment.
What awaits us in 2025
For all of the above, this year has been key to consolidating the project’s efforts, and has served to advance both in the technical field and in the creation of collaboration and awareness networks. Looking to 2025, the LIFE RESEAU consortium remains committed to the mission of mitigating the effects of heavy rainfall and improving the sustainability and resilience of urban water cycle infrastructure.
