With the beginning of the new year, the LIFE RESEAU project is preparing to intensify its efforts in the operation, validation and replication of the technological solutions developed to date. These advances, focused on improving wastewater management and mitigating the impacts of climate change, will mark key milestones in 2025.
Advances in the Moaña and Søndersø pilots
In the Moaña pilot, efforts will be focused on two main areas. On the one hand, at the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), work will be done on optimizing the pilot operating parameters, with the aim of perfecting the aerobic granulation process after a successful initial start-up. On the other hand, in the sanitation network, the difficulties encountered in the installation of some sensors will be addressed by evaluating new locations or technological alternatives. The information collected, including data on water levels, flows and quality, will be key to developing new prediction models that support the main objective of the project: reducing discharges of untreated water.
In the case of Søndersø, the WWTP will continue with the operation of the pilot, focusing efforts on optimizing its operation to increase the treated flow through the use of MABR and SWTM. In the sanitation network, work will be aimed at advancing pending models, including those that evaluate the impact of climate change on existing infrastructure. This approach seeks to strengthen the facilities’ ability to adapt to future conditions.
Replication and scalability of solutions
One of the great challenges of the year will be the replication of LIFE RESEAU technologies. To achieve this, the Business Plan will be updated, integrating the learning obtained during the operation and adjusting the projections to the new conditions. In addition, work will be done to establish agreements that allow these solutions to be implemented in new locations, expanding the impact of the project.
Dissemination of results and upcoming milestones
The dissemination of results will continue to be a priority, with continuous efforts on the project’s dissemination channels and in the organization of sectoral events. At the end of the year, the launch of a video of the project compiling the main achievements is planned.
LIFE RESEAU faces 2025 with firm steps towards its objective of transforming urban wastewater management, reinforcing the sustainability and adaptability of infrastructure in the face of the challenges derived from climate change.
