During the last weeks the partitioning of one of the reactors (a biological carrousel), currently in disuse, has been completed, so that there will be two new reactors of approximately 450 m3 each, without the need to increase the area used in the WWTP.
In a few days, the installation of the new mechanical and electrical elements will begin to convert these reactors into a biofilm-based system, specifically one based on granular aerobic biomass. This technology manages to increase more efficiently the biological treatment capacity of wastewater. In this way it will be possible to treat in these two smaller reactors the same amount of wastewater that a conventional activated sludge system would treat in the complete carousel currently in use.
In the pictures, different moments of the modification of the old carrousel and its conversion into two granular reactors through the introduction of precast walls.
